Easy Peasy Bread recipe

  • 3 cups strong bread flour (basically 24 fl oz on a measuring jug)
  • a table spoon of Honey or sugar + 1 crushed vitamin C tablet
  • 1 sachet of instant yeast
  • teaspoon of salt
  • 3 teaspoons oil/lard/butter etc
  • About a cup or so of hand warm water

Breadmakers:

Throw the lot in and let rip on the program of your choice. Remember, the quick setting will give you a less levened (risen) loaf than the full program. When putting the water in watch the mix and add more if nessissary. Dough should just hold together. The more wholewheat you have in the four, the more water you will need!

By Hand: 

Basically get all the ingredients in a bowl and mix with a knife. No I dont understand either but it works! Kneed gently, then let rise covered in a damp cloth in a  warm place for an hour or until the mix has doubled in size.

Kneed again for a few minutes, recover and leave for another hour. You can repeat this f you want to.

After the final kneeding shape, place onto baking tray / in tin, cover with a damp cloth in a warm place for about 30 mins.

Bake on around 160 deg C for about 20 mins, or so if you knock the bottom of the loaf it sounds hollow. Thats a trick I got off my Nan!
